State Company for Leather Industries, one of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals State Companies announced that until January, 2010 it has performed 98% of the small tanning rehabilitation and 58% of grand tanning plant. Mr. Majeed Abdul Nabee the company General Director clarified that the company also laid down a plan to implement half processed leather tanning project at a total allocation of (12) billion I.D. (5) billion of which for 2009 the project include the establishment of tanning plant at Mousel where the production rate was 25% and the financial incomes was 98%, the company contracted with one of the private sector companies to provide the project with different materials and spare parts including (6 tanning machines, 2 sodium sulfur spray machines, three wool weaving machines, one wool pressing machine in addition to other machines). The spokesman added that the company got approval of Thiqar Provincial Council and Ministry of Environment to establish a tanning plant referring that the required technical requirements are now under performance, the company also started to prepare and supply leather clothes plant with view of gaining ISO certificate (2001).
